Do I need a licence to publish a record?

To publish a record on the market, you need to have the corresponding Reproduction and Distribution licence from the Society of Authors in the country where the record is going to be distributed.

What steps do I need to take to publish a record?

First of all, you have to be registered with the SGAE as a recording company (this does not imply any cost for applicants). Next, you must complete a contract that varies depending on the type of licence requested and to which we will apply the general tables of fees to calculate the amount for copyright.

Examples of fees

For example, if you are going to manufacture 500 units of a CD for a promotion, the fee rate applied is € 0.5089 per unit.

What does this licence include?

Promotional and advertising media
In this kind of licence, the copies produced are intended for distribution to the public free of charge for promotional or advertising purposes. This kind of licence, known as a SPECIAL PRODUCTION LICENCE, requires the authorization of the registered holders of the works included.

The table of fees will be set by the rights holders of the works but will in no case be lower than the minimum charge set in the general table of fees of the SGAE, which will be applicable in the alternative.

Deductions and rate reductions

For SPECIAL PRODUCTION media, the fee per copy is calculated applying declining scales depending on the number of units to be manufactured. When used for advertising, the fee is increased by 20%.
